YARN: Irregular handspun wool about the size of Reynolds Lopi
GAUGE: Stock st, 7 sts = 2 inches
NEEDLES: Size 10 for size for gauge, Tapestry Needle
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cast on 71 sts loosely.
Row 1: (right side of hat): P1, *k1,p1; repeat from * across row.
Row 2: K1, *p1, k1, repeat from * across row.
repeat rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 11 1/2 inches, ending with row 2.
Shape Top of Hat:
(p1, k1) 3 times, [*in one motion slip next 2 sts as to k, p the next st, p2sso the p st - 2 sts dec**, (k1, p1), 5 times, k1] 4 times, repeat from * to ** once more,
then complete row in rib as established - 5 dec of 2 sts each have been made across the row.
New Row:
k and p sts as they appear.
Next Row:
(p1, k1) twice, p1, [*in one motion slip next 2 sts as to k, k the next st, p2sso**,
(p1, k1) 4 times, p1] 4 times, repeat from * to ** once more,
then complete the row in ribbing as established.
Next Row:
k and p the sts as they appear.
Continue to dec on every other row in the above manner until 11 sts remain.
Cut yarn leaving a long end.
With tapestry needle lace end through remaining sts, draw them closed, then neatly overcast the edges together.
Roll up bottom of hat to for a cuff.
